I'm an American, watching this interview in America as I sip my coffee. When Piers said Taylor Swift is bigger than The Beatles, I somehow did a spit take of tea and shouted "bloody hell" in a British accent. That's how offensive that comment was.

It's so nice that these two can disagree about Taylor Swift and not call each other terrible names or storm off the set.

The difference between the Beatles and swift is EVERYONE could identify a Beatles song as opposed to swift where the MAJORITY WOULD NOT HAVE A CLUE.. it’s her juvenile simplistic fans making her famous.. NOT A CROSS SECTION OF THE POPULATION..

1. Both Beatles & Phil Collins/Genesis started in the 60’s, when Earth population were over 3 billion (raising roughly by 80 million every year), now there are over 8 billion.

2. Selling records were much different in the past, you had to actually buy it from a local store, if there were any, or travel to nearest town, now a 10 year old can buy Taylor Swift album from their home in 30 seconds

3. Usually you had to see a flyer in your town, or hear it in the radio, so you would know about the concert, now with internet, you have instant access to information from all around the world, even to the point, that its “fed” to you on social media.

4. Even after 60 years, both Beatles & Phil Collins are still relevant, people are still listening to their songs, (because it has depth and are timeless) and majority of population across all generations still know, who they are.. I dont know a single song from her, and I highly doubt, that most of the population, that are not in their teenage years could name any of her song also, and definitely not 50 years from now..

Saying Swift is bigger than the Beatles makes about as much sense as saying poetry-reading YouTubers are bigger than Shakespeare because they get more viewers on YouTube per hour than he ever got. Different times, different markets, and different mediums, and you also can't deny that current success is largely built on top of the influences and trends set by the great artists who came before.

I think saying Taylor Swift is equal to Phil Collins might just be the worst thing Piers Morgan has ever said.

I doubt they will be singing taylors songs 25 years from now but they will be singing Beattles songs ....... that's what the difference is in music

Artists have a profound influence over the generation they grow up with during their success.

It’s good to have a youthful attitude in your mind, but it’s bad to have a childish intellect instead of developing and maturing. What made The Beatles phenomenal was that we were able to all grow up as we watched The Beatles grow up.

Taylor swift as a "incredible singer" is a bold statement. Are we listening to the same artist? Let me know when she hits a real note without auto-tune on that new album... ill be waiting. Shes a phenomena, sure, but its not about talent at all. Hollywood is a WILD place

I had 6 kids all to the same mother but I was raised by a single mother from 12 years old,
But I had my mum and dad for the 12 years and that made a huge difference.
My mum died when I was 15 but what she showed me was enough for me to get through my struggles without having parents later in life and to give my values to my kids
