“Marty Stuart’s acquisition of the guitar is the reason we are still talking about the guitar today.” I’m embarrassed I gave this video enough time that I even heard such a ridiculous statement! Clarence was a legendary innovator of guitar playing who would still be revered by guitar players today no matter what happened to his gear!

Years ago at the Warehouse in New Orleans, La. In the year of 1970 I went to a concert to see the Byrds. I felt that a lot people were coming to a rock concert but the Byrds were different which I knew from listening to them for years. It was a great concert, but little did I know that Clarence White that was a member of the Byrds was among the musicians that night, it was a moment to remember….

Saw Clarence in 1970 in Rotterdam as member of the Byrds. I've the heard the B-bender 'trick' but was not aware of the technic involved. He was very static on stage, his mysterious image got all attention from me. Sad he was dying at so young age. I'm now 76 years but play a lot of these songs.

A story well told. Many Talented Artists living in southern California, early 70's did'nt survive

The larger story of Whites instruments and musical influences is with his acoustic Martin guitar and the influence he left on Tony Rice. Funny enough Clarence also tinkered with the Martin, he enlarged the sound hole and a few other things. This guitar is the holy Grail of pre-war bluegrass guitars. This is just my opinion. I’m 37 years old and somehow fortunate enough to say I’ve seen both his B-bender and the infamous Martin play live. Both at Merlefest in Wilkesboro NC. Great job on this documentary!

Clarence was a genius. His legacy with the Byrds is sadly underappreciated. I saw the Byrds with Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives in 2018 on the 50th Anniversary of Sweetheart of the Rodeo. It was amazing. I recommend the live album of that tour. Marty pays homage to Clarence on stage every night. It's a long story that's still being written.

OMG, this guy can spin a story like no other. One of the best music stories I have ever heard! The only thing he left out is that Tony Rice ended up with Clarence’s D-28 and changed bluegrass music forever.

Great video. Even without the sound bites. I love the history of how it all started. Now it's time for me to check out Clarence White.

15:28. "Gene was a drummer. . . ." Picture of Gene Parsons playing banjo with the Byrds.
We went to see Parsons Green do a show in a little music store. Gene played banjo and guitars including an acoustic B-bender. He called Clarence his musical brother.
