Supermarket checkout workers sit down in all European countries. As usual, the USA is way behind with regard to the treatment of employees.

Yes, every home has a shoe horn.
A shoe horn is a small tool that helps you slide your shoes in easily. It protects the heel cap from folding or breaking, makes it easier to put on tight shoes and protects your back and fingers because you don't have to bend deeply or pull on the shoe.

Why you should use a shoe horn:
* Protects your shoes: The heel cap on the inside keeps its shape and doesn't break.
* Saves time: The foot slides quickly and straight into the shoe.
* Protects your body: You don't have to bend your back or fingers too much.
* Better hygiene: You avoid pressing down on your heel with just your fingers in dirty shoes.

As far as i know, sitting down as a cashier is not just Swedish and not even European, put universal around the world, apart from US

”You can't sit down because then you will not be working as hard?” What? That's far, far beyond stupid. If the job gets done, what could possibly be the problem? Are you paid to get the job done or to be tired or to wear out your body?
Here in Sweden they usually sit down but they can stand too if they want to. Sometimes when you sit for too long it's nice to stand for a while and then you can sit again. I guess it also depends on which grocery store they work in.
”Only Aldi cashiers sit down in the USA” – yes, that makes sense, since Aldi is German.

In Sweden, parents have 480 days of parental benefit per child. Of these, 390 days are at the sickness benefit level (based on income) and 90 days at the minimum level (180 SEK/day). 90 days per parent are earmarked and cannot be transferred to the other. At the birth of the child, the other parent is also entitled to 10 "father's days" with temporary parental benefit.

Distribution of days
* Total number: 480 days per child (240 days each as a starting point).
* Reserved days: 90 days at the sickness benefit level per parent cannot be transferred to the other. The rest (150 days per person) can be freely transferred between the parents.
* Compensation levels: 390 days are based on your salary (sickness benefit-eligible income, SGI), and 90 days is a fixed minimum level.

First period (Newborn child)
* The 10-day period: The parent who does not give birth to the child (or the one who is at home at the beginning) can receive compensation from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency for 10 working days in connection with the birth.
* Withdrawal in advance: The mother can start withdrawing parental benefit up to 60 days before the expected birth.
* Double days: You can be on parental leave and withdraw parental benefit at the same time (double days) for a maximum of 30 days until the child is 1 year old.

Not letting people sit down is a well-known <s>torture</s> “enhanced interrogation” technique. That's why it's allowed in the US but most civilised countries eschew such idiocy.

Cashiers in Swedish grocery stores sit on specially adapted work chairs to protect the body from wear and tear, reduce fatigue in the legs and feet, and improve the long-term work environment according to the Swedish Work Environment Authority's guidelines on ergonomics.

Benefits of sitting down:
* Better ergonomics: Reduces pressure on the back, knees, and feet compared to standing on hard floors during a work shift that lasts several hours.
* Less muscle fatigue: Allows staff to relax their shoulders and neck better when scanning goods.
* The right height: The chairs can be raised and lowered so that the arms end up at a good angle to the checkout belt and keyboard.

Why it's different:
* Swedish work environment: In Sweden, unions and the Swedish Trade Union Federation place great importance on a good physical work environment, which makes seated cashiers the standard.
* International differences: In some other countries, staff stand up, which is sometimes dictated by tradition, the design of the checkout counter, or an idea that it looks more active.

A shoehorn saves both your shoes and your back. In Finland, we have them in every household. We have two: one in the front entryway and another in the back entryway.

You're forced to stand at the cash register, not even a stool to relieve fatigued feet? I think that is more shocking than being allowed to sit.
