I always thought that if Christine didn't have someone to love her then she couldn't fix herself. Arnie's speech about love and how much it takes from you seems to back this up.

Arnie having to fix Christine up initially, would take a lot of time and devotion .... quality alone time in Christine's eyes and proof of love. Like you said, the bond.

Just to let you know MollyBee that when Arnie Cunningham died. Christine didn't kill him, it was an accident. When that 1958 Plymouth Fury was build at that time, and when when Arnie got her. Christine didn't have seat belts at all. That's i think of what happened to Arnie when he smashed through Christine's front windshield.

The effect when Christine first fixes herself, they filmed the car decompressed with a hydrolic system, then played it in reverse for the film.
