  <b>My response to @cek14459, who argues in the comments:</b> &nbsp;<br>It’s simply not true that all the Church Fathers rejected the notion that the Jews would return to the land. Tertullian, Justin Martyr, and Irenaeus all taught that the Jews would physically be restored to the land of Israel.<br><b>My response:</b> <br>That is simply incorrect, and it conflates two completely opposite ideas. Yes, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, and Tertullian could speak about a future Jerusalem or a millennial kingdom. But that is not remotely the same as teaching that the Jewish people would be nationally restored to the Land of Israel as Israel, as described in Jeremiah 30:3, Ezekiel 37–39, and Zechariah 12. <br> <br>In fact, Justin Martyr teaches virtually the opposite in his Dialogue with Trypho. He explicitly identifies Christians, not the Jewish people, as the true Israel and transfers Israel’s covenantal promises away from the nation to the Church. That is replacement theology, not Jewish restoration. <br> <br>So anyone claiming that these Church Fathers taught that the Jews would return to the Land of Israel as a restored nation is reading into them a theology they did not hold. Their “future Jerusalem” was not the restored Jewish nation we see described by the Hebrew prophets. <br> <br>Tragically, the Church Fathers helped entrench doctrines that misled millions into believing that the Jewish people had been displaced from their covenantal role. What is unfolding in our time—the return of the Jewish people to their land and the reestablishment of Israel—stands in profound tension with that theology, not in fulfillment of it.
