  I&apos;ve seen another review on bearings in that some manufactures fit exactly the same bearings in the 8, 9, 10 and 11kg load machines. The bearing is more likely to last in a machine that can only take the smaller weight of load, the machines with the smaller druns.

  My last two washing machines, Bosch which lasted 12 years, and current a Zanussi still running at 14 years but not as quite as it used to be.

  Ebac washing machines are crap! &nbsp;I made the mistake in buying one and 3 years of use later,,,,,,, &nbsp; The manufacturer claims that the machine has bespoke software the carefully checks the balance of the load - to protect the drum bearings. &nbsp; What happens is the machine will take an extra 40 minutes (over and above the stated program time) checking for a &nbsp;balanced load, both for rinsing and for the final spin. One out of three times it will not find a balance and will refuse to spin at any speed above a crwl. The wash finishes and load is still dripping wet. If you watch the process the machine will attempt to spin very slowly and a small amount of water is removed from the load, it detects an unbalanced condition and repeats this sequence for a long time before giving up. &nbsp;Once it has refused to do the final fast spin if the load is left in the machine for, say, an hour enough water will drip out of the load and selecting spin only option it will have no trouble with a spin up to 1600 rpm. Its a catch 22. The machine will not spin fast enough to get some of the water out of the load to get the load to balance and if the load is not perfectly balanced it does not spin to get any water out of the load. Which? rated the machine as one of the worst they ever tested.

  Stick to 7 kg machines. Less weight on the bearings in a less deep machine.

  Yes, high spin speeds do hasten wear and tear. I never spin at more than 800 rpm, often 600rpm. I then pop the laundry into a spin dryer, spinning at 2800 rpm. Then, in the winter it&apos;s straight into the tumble dryer. Invest in a spin dryer. Less wear and tear on the washing machine, less time in the dryer, kinder to your pocket.

  Problem is, if you&apos;re still using a 20 year old machine, it&apos;s costing you more every time you use it than a modern one is, it&apos;s also likely to not clean as well as a modern machine. Will this still be true in 20, years time? I think it likely will be.
