He paid $900k for 2 employees and a truck? Sounds like a bought a Craigslist list post, not a company 😂. Poor guy now has to move heavy ass furniture on his days off to pay off his crazy debt. This sounds insanely terrible

Paying $900K for a business you could start with a bit of room on a credit card is the antithesis of entrepreneurship.

The guy who sold this business could not have found a better buyer willing to pay $900k ! For a moving business with one crew. Wild

franchises literally have created a grifty way to essentially claim real estate all over the country without having to own . it’s terrible

I didn’t buy a business but I pulled out a loan to start one (personal loan from old boss). It’s a retail flooring store and I’m a going through a down period. Still not profitable. Ton of debt with vendors. It’s Good to hear I’m not alone. Now I just need to sit down and determine what is the part that makes me close the doors for good. These stories help a lot

An accountant bought this business? Overpaid? 2 workers? A franchise. Franchise = buying yourself a job.

Truthfully this guy was doomed from the start and didnt really use his brain before investing million dollars. Macro-economics aside, what exactly are you buying for 900K, if you ask yourself. Moving is service and services are commodities, so its already low margin. On top of that, moving customers by default are non-recurring. A moving company is a advertisement company. This guy could have capped his loses at 300K, starting a moving company from scratch, not that it even requires 300K to build one. Its hard to feel bad, its just a skill gap issue at that point

One of the most overlooked aspects of franchising is how one-sided the franchise agreements are. People tend to focus on brand and royalty fees etc. However, one of the riskiest parts of being in a franchise is your lack of control over how you can exit without facing liquidated damages and other penalties. People think they're taking on less risk by finding a "proven system" but you've replaced that risk with brand adhesion and predatory franchisor rights at the expense of you the franchisee.
