  yes, this is the NT I remember as a child in the 60s, no shoes, no shirt, no hat, no sunscreen... oh boy am I paying for it now

  I was so grateful when my parents took me out of school for a term in 1982 and took us up the centre of Australia and down the East coast. My favourite part of the trip was the NT. This was before the main HWY was sealed and it was far less &quot;touristy&quot;. Places like Mataranka Springs where totally unspoilt. Nowadays, they have concrete steps and hand-rails! People from the Southern states who have never been to the top end could not comprehend how different it is. It feels like a totally different country.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQJemqqRGfg&amp;t=1323">22:03</a> shows a plane taking off. This film is so old that the runway is most likely what&apos;s now Memorial Ave in Alice Springs. Nevertheless, a very interesting film. Many of the long-term residents I met when I first went to live in the NT would have had vivid recollections of these scenes.
