  <b>In 2015 I had a 10TB system. 10TB of HDD and a 1TB SATA3 2.5&quot; SSD for games. It was nowhere near $10,000. But, it also wasn&apos;t 40TB. But it was an i7 4790K with 32GB DDR3 1600MHz at CL7. It started with a GTX 980 Ti. TRULY a fantastic computer.</b>

  My friend&apos;s late father was chain smoking almost 3 packs a day. When he asked me to service his PC I was in for a shock of my life. No, not that it was filled with the most sticky, toxic gunk imaginable. That I occasionally see with some of my clients&apos; PCs and even servers. In that one the gunk was so old and so thick - it oozed blackish-brown liquid. &nbsp;It corroded the blades of both case fans, and I finally had the explanation for the odd howling noise it made. When I saw this, - I just called back and convinced him that I should just build him a new PC instead. I did and it outlasted him unfortunately. (No he didn&apos;t die from smoking, if you&apos;re curious, but if he lived a little longer he may have).

  I used to spread thermal paste like that but then I started finding air pockets. When you don’t have a path for air egress, the cpu makes tiny air bubbles that keep pumping out the paste more and more like water freezing in a crack in a road and making it wider. The “X” shape really is the best way because each triangular side pushes out all the air as the cpu compresses the paste. This is why many thermal pads have air egress channels molded into them. Same with vinyl for wrapping cars at my shop.
