  Yes, it was recorded live for a studio audience for The Andy Williams Show. The studio recording is very different. Bobby outdid himself that night, singing with his mother in the audience. He was also singing with a heavy cold.

  He sang this in 1965 during the Vietnam War.  The words take on a whole new meaning if you were overseas or the one staying at home!

  Everybody make comments about it being live with no auto tune/pitch correction ... just pure talent, so I like to mention that it was NOT performed to a pre-recorded musical track but with a live studio orchestra. Credit needs to be given to those talented musicians who played flawlessly.

  Very much enjoyed your reaction. I'm 75 years old. I see so many young reactors wax nostalgic for that time period where we took this music for granted. There was some lip syncing done but most singers preferred to perform live. No auto tune in those days. It's called talent. You're right in that they don't make music like this today. The Beatles performed every one of their songs on their 3 performances on the Ed Sullivan TV show live! We did not realize how good we had it.
