Gandalf had a cheat code too. The ring kept him from growing weary through all the years and I think the Hobbits helped remind him of the west and why he needed to succeed.

Regarding the traits of the Hobbits, I believe that the Entwives may have played a part in their creation or at least early development. Their likes and interests are very similar, and the Entwives went missing around the area where the Hobbits, or their ancestors, first appeared.

It tracks that, if Saruman and Sauron were smithfolk drawn towards Aulë, the Valar of crafts, then Gandalf, drawn towards Nienna, the Valar of Pity and Mercy, would groove on folk who showed those qualities.

(....though there be no affinity of Sauron or Saruman towards Dwarves, directly created by Aulë.. given another few revisions, maybe we'd find Dark Dwarves in the mountains east of Moria, or some such)

He refuses to enter the Shire after the War of the Ring, despite having an idea of what was happening there. He knew Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin could handle matters, but I suspect he also couldn't bear to see what Saruman had done. Perhaps, without the constraints of his mission, he would have been tempted to actions which would've jeopardized his place on the last ship...

I remember a similar video by you on this subject, and if I may share a speculative opinion; it’s likely that Gandalf shares a kinship of spirit with the hobbits. He was content to stay in Valinor’s green country as Olorin the Maiar spirit, and was persuaded to join the other Istari. Sounds an awful lot like Bilbo. And he had a lot of similar tastes as hobbits do for good food, fine drink, a warm hearth, and a hearty smoke.

The Shire was based on Tolkien's childhood village, and "The Scouring of the Shire" was his way of processing how that village turned into a grey suburb due to industrialization. Tolkien couldn't save his real home, but the hobbits could save theirs. That’s exactly why Gandalf loved the Shire.

The shire gives me the feeling of coming home. It grounds me in something real and brings fond memories. I feel like the grey pilgrim could really find his respite

Even a wizard needs a place where he can forget about his worries for a while.

I love the Shire because it’s just so peaceful and beautiful, which makes a place for even immortals to enjoy it as well.
