this is very impresive because they don't generate a lot but this is running 24/7 so with that many batteries that is like having a system several times the size

This is such a cool way to get off the grid power for a remote residence.

Looks very well made considering its uses what is available at a typical hardware store. One large (easily fixable) flaw is where the pipe comes into the turbine square. Rather than the flow coming in at the 'side' of the square, it should come in at the corner. As it is, the flow slams into the Tee and must turns 90deg both ways. A lot of added turbulence and lost energy. If you shifted the inlet to the right into the corner of the square, then most of the flow would go smoothly around in a CCW direction.

I love this set-up and I might consider a similar set-up in the future on an off-grid cabin that I'm building.

If I could suggest something to people building this to last into the future, something that we did on PVC pipes on our property: paint your pipes with UV-resistant spray paint or bury them in dirt. This protects the plastic from becoming brittle and damaged from sitting in the sun all day and allows the pipes to operate continuously for years to come.

500+ watts 24/7 will legitimately provide enough power in a house with people who know how to turn things off when they aren't using them, especially if they have propane heat/cooking/water heating for 90% of the year.

I'd run any excess power into a water heater for efficient storage.

Having a constant, 24/7 540w incoming with that large of a battery reserve is actually a huge deal. That is a guaranteed 13KWh each day, so they can replenish a third of their battery each day if they leave everything off, and I'm assuming they plan to incorporate solar power with everything else.

And all being powered by what is basically a hoverboard wheel! Amazing!

500 watts doesn't sound like a lot, but it's on 24/7, which comes out to 360 kWh per month. A trickle of consistent power can add up to substantial amounts of energy over time, the same reason why small devices used 24/7 are energy hogs compared to occasional use of powerful devices such as electric ovens.
