My Cult Leader Father Locked Me Inside For 30 Years

In this episode of OMG Stories: Up Close, Katy Morgan-Davies shares the extraordinary story of growing up inside a secretive cult where she says she was kept isolated from the outside world for three decades. Born into a Maoist collective led by her father, Katy describes a childhood unlike anything most people could imagine. She says she was rarely allowed outside, had no conventional education, was taught to view outsiders as enemies and grew up believing her father possessed extraordinary power. Inside the home, strict rules controlled almost every aspect of daily life. After years of dreaming about freedom, Katy made her first attempt to leave in her early twenties — but with little understanding of the outside world, she eventually returned. Years later, with the help of another member of the group, she finally escaped in 2013 and began experiencing an independent life for the first time. 🎙️ In this episode, Katy discusses: Growing up inside a secretive Maoist cult Being isolated from the outside world The strict rules that controlled her childhood Being taught to worship and never question her father Why she wasn't allowed to live a normal childhood Growing up surrounded by fear, control and conflict Realising the outside world wasn't what she'd been taught Her first attempt to escape in her early twenties Why she eventually returned after trying to leave The secret plan that finally helped her escape Starting an independent life after decades of isolation What happened to her father after she left Why she chose forgiveness rather than anger What freedom means to her today After spending most of her early life under extreme control, Katy's story is an extraordinary account of isolation, freedom, forgiveness and learning how to build a completely new life on your own terms. 🎙️ OMG Stories: Up Close – real conversations with people living extraordinary lives. 🔔 Subscribe for more incredible real-life stories every week.
