A not so fun fact (which has nothing to do with the game, but is about the Bubonic Plague as a disease, since you did bring up that there could have been an undocumented outbreak) Scientists have actually pretty recently (around 2011) found that there was an outbreak long before the Justinian Plague in what is now modern day Latvia IIRC. They ended up unearthing a few ancient corpses with bones that had the telltale scarring of plague victims. Now, if the devs knew about that or not, no idea, but it does give us a lot more info about the plague and how it evolved/ when it first appeared to jump to Humans. The worst bit, aside from the plague of course, being that as Humans came together in cities, it too became much more transmissable via fleas, not just rat bites

1:38:05 I can totally relate, having lost my Mother only months before playing this game for the 1st time. The grief that hit me at the end, and also during the scene where Amecia is begging for a scroll or a phial for the cure, hit so close to home that this game left me a sobbing mess by the end of it. I couldn't even strike Hugo down at the end, waiting so long that Lucas did it for me, because it felt like letting my Mother go all over again. 😭

We hoped and prayed for a cure to her cancer, so Amecia's denial mirrored my own denial that my Mother would come out of this alive! But alas, that final day of her life, I came to accept that this was the end and was able to say goodbye and let go. 😭

Truly, this game captured these feelings of grief and all its stages so well that it will forever live rent-free in my mind & heart for many years to come. 🩷🎗🩷

I believe magister knew bout la cuna and everything u said and hence insisted on taking them to mersailles instead, whereas Beatrice didn't know bout it but just believed whatever the magister said because she trusted him and his methods

Is it perfect? No... but I'll be damned if Requiem isn't a kick in the guts. Charlotte McBurney was phenomenal as Amicia and carried the game just on her own.

25:31 it IS important that, of the pair, only the Countess 'has it in her head' about Hugo being the Child of Embers. She experienced horrors during the last war and has latched onto the story of the Macula and has distorted it in her mind to be a story of hope and renewal. The COUNT knows it's made up but basically pushed his wife to it as it was a distraction for her and she was seemingly the only good thing he had left after losing so much in the last war. Once she dies, he then wants to reclaim Hugo and then use him to exact vengeance on.......well...........everyone.

It feels so weird hearing these games in English after playing them in the original French.

I remember the last time I've played a fun villain character.....it was in Overlord (those games were really nice)... now I play Requiem, a game with two not so fun villain protagonists.
