I don't think they ever had child labor laws. Remember when Ash had to work as a doctor, a maid, a nurse, a restaurant advertizer, etc.? And yes, it's Rat-I-Kate.

3:20 they added more depth to his character :D
5:37 Raticate's teeth will grow back anyways, it was mostly emotional damage from losing to a Ditto that only won by turning into a rock

I remember when injuries like that always happened in the first series, like when ash's kingler broke the shell of a cloyster

I mean, didn't Ashs Metapod break the horns of a Pinsir in one of the first eps? Wasn't there an episode in the Kanto anime where a human doctor treated a bunch of badly hurt pokemon with Ashs group and Team Rocket? I'm not saying the protagonist should be brutal against wild or enemy pokémon, but it's defenitly not new

It's fine, a rodents teeth never stop growing. That's why they naw on anything they can find, to help wear them down. Props to Pokemon for displaying it in a terrifying way.

The episode itself tells you to not worry about the Raticate, due to that fact you mentioned: its teeth regrow constantly. It's going to be fine. They even added a segment at the end of the episode where Navi comes back to feed berries to the Raticate!
They probably knew the broken teeth would make some people uncomfortable and made sure to be reassuring about that.

that radicate isn't permanently scarred, it's painful sure but rodents constantly wear their teeth down because they just keep growing, if they don't the teeth will eventually hurt them.
most likely what will happen is that the teeth will be sensitive for a while and being used a lot they will wear down.

3:42 we have hundreds of episodes from the Original Series and Sun and Moon to disclose the pronunciation of Raticate. It's always "Rat-e-kate" like eradicate.

Yes, the Raticate’s incisors splintering looks painful. But in real life, rodents like rats and beavers see their incisors grow throughout their lifetimes. Constant gnawing and chewing keeps them at a comfortable length, or else the incisors would obstruct their ability to feed or do much else. Raticate even has Pokédex entries referencing this.

It’s a pain in the short term, but it’ll be fine over time.
