This reminds me of a diary I read of a German soldier fighting on the western front. It went something like: “upon victory the generals will lead a massive parade in sparkling uniforms followed by young soldiers, new tanks and equipment, and the city will cheer. Once the streets are cleaned and the people go home; in will come old men, wearing rags and speaking Russian, and the world will forget about them because the world no longer needs them.” This story reminded me of this. Once again a good story!
