If you had the money to pay off your mortgage today, would you do it or keep that money invested? What would make the most sense for you? Curious what everyone here thinks.

Paying off the house brings a kind of peace you just can’t put a price on. And every paycheck after that feels like a raise. 🙌

Obviously my computer or phone listens to my conversations. I have literally just paid my mortgage off and as of September 2026 am totally debt free. I have to say it did not come with a sense of euphoria, more a kind of satisfying inner-glow that at last I owed not a penny to anyone.

This story absolutely describes me. I had a 30 year mortgage that I paid off in 13 years. I drove a 2008 Toyota Prius until 2026. I had the ugliest tile countertops with big grout lines that were almost impossible to keep clean. I had linoleum on the kitchen floor with holes in it that I covered up with a rug. And yet it was all fine. I paid the house off and all of a sudden my wealth exploded. Why? Because all the money they used to go to the mortgage, and all of the extra payments were now mine. Five years later after paying off the house, I put in new beautiful tile floors along with new quartz countertops and appliances. No more holes in the kitchen floor! My net worth is now over $1.3 million simply because I waited. I had the patience and the desire to pay off the house and get out of the trap. Delayed gratification! In many cases that is the difference between being poor and being wealthy.

The part about writing the mortgage balance on the fridge really got me. Sometimes the biggest changes in life happen so quietly that nobody around you even realizes you're building a completely different future.

I paid off my 20 year mortgage in 7 years. I wasn’t even prudent with money, but it was all by God’s grace.
