  Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic and Swedish are very closely related. Icelandic is more isolated and conservative, so yes, it's more "viking" sounding. Finnish on the other hand, is not even from the same language group. It's VERY different from the others.

  We call it BH because it&apos;s short, not because brystholder isn&apos;t appropriate. It is. In Denmark we say brystvorte, nothing inappropriate about that either.<br>But off course we get the funny translations 😊

  in denmark we also mostly say bh not because its more apropriate but because its shorter and easier to say ,just like bra is also just short for brassière.<br>finnish is in a different language family than the scandinavian ones, thats why it doesnt sound like our at all.<br>and yes thats what its called in danish the words was invented long long ago , long before the internet and before everyone had english on a basic level in school and no it doesnt sound funny in the same way as it does for you as we dont think in english and then translate from danish.<br>just guessing here but since the word for pimple isnt similar in scandinavian languages maybe it entered the vocabulary more recent.

  As swedish is the second official language here in Finland we have a joke for the swedish word for pimple &quot;finne&quot; which also means finn. If someone says &quot;jag klämde ut en finne&quot; (I popped a pimple) we say &quot;och den blev svensk&quot; (and it became a swede)

  German here. <br><br>We also call a bra a „Büstenhalter“ / breast holder (BH for short) and a nipple is „Brustwarze“ / breast wart. <br><br>BH is used not because it is inappropriate but because it is short. To use the full term is somewhat antiquated (Büste as a term for breast is for sure, nowadays it’s usually Brust)<br><br>This way of naming things by using existing terms is actually very germanic and I think Old English probably had a term similar to this.<br>For example old English used flesh monger instead of butcher, bone house for body and tree wright instead of carpenter. All death was starving which terms like „sterben“ (to die) and so on in other germanic languages are related to.<br><br>English took on a lot of French after the Norman conquest and that’s were bra comes from. In German you can also call a BH „Brasier“ but that’s very uncommon.
