  In 2006 a couple of stupid french politicians advocated to defund a scientific association near Paris. A few thousands euros seemt far too much to count dragonflies and some other bugs around ponds and rivers. Those nitwits did not have a single clue why some scientists wanted to count those species. In fact the variation of a few specific bugs population is a really good indicator of water quality/pollution, when they become scarce or absent you can start to worry and spend much more money to find which pollutant is in the water and where it comes from.

  I ripped on her a few years ago in a comment on one of her videos wherein she claimed that she left academics because her work wasn’t “trendy” enough to score grant funding. I pointed out that if she had anything of substance to claim, she would be making her arguments to other academics, not a YouTube audience. She blocked me. lol. Loser.

  The thing that boggles my mind about Sabine is that her primary evidence that academia is fundamentally broken is that scientists and publishers are chasing financial rewards, so her "solution" is ... to turn everything over to for-profit corporations. Even knowing nothing else about the realities of academia, the entire premise makes absolutely no sense.

  Belgian here : Cofnas was NOT sacked. He was put on admin leave. He later reintegrated the uni full-time after intense pressure from the Trump admin through ambassador Bill White. White literally threatened to review any and all collaboration between UGhent and the U.S. if Cofnas was not reinstated.<br><br>UGhent caved in.
