The Zelda Remake That's Not a Remake at All

Twilight Princess has to be the most “anniversary” feeling title Nintendo has ever made without slapping a giant sticker that say “Zelda 20th anniversary” on it, and I’ve always loved that about it. There’s a reason it became THE Zelda game moving forward, represented through two consecutive smash bros and countless Nintendo renders.

I always appreciate Twilight Princess for making Link just that little bit more of an actual character than he had been previously. Link had a community around him that didn't just immediately fall to the side after the first dungeon. He meets people and makes friends who remain relevant for large chunks of the game. And his friends actually felt like people with their own stories and agency. While Link influences them, their stories don't just end whenever he leaves the village they're in.

You forgot to mention that not only can you talk to the folks around castle town but YOU CAN TALK TO THE ANIMALS TOO IN WOLF FORM! That blew my MIND finding that out as a kid, my favorite animal dialogue is epona who basically tells you "hey quit messing around and change back you have to save zelda."

Sad this is STILL the only game you can run and swing your sword at the same time. Legit my favorite mechanic in the game

I've never cared for a fictional character more than when Midna gets exposed to light and you have to race back to the castle. I was legitimately hauling major ass even when there wasn't even a time limit.

And that's how good Twilight Princess is.

Working with the underground resistance is such a unique plot device for a zelda game. You don't feel like a prophesied hero, you feel like a scrappy underdog working with whatever allies you can get.

The best part of TP for me, is that in no other Zelda game, do you feel like you are actively having an positive effect on the world. MM, WW and ToTK are close. But because of MM loops, it isn't truly present till the end, WW you don't interact with the people enough and ToTK people do acknowledge you but because you move around so much it doesn't really stick. In TP, you save a multiple villages from the shadow beasts who actively killed people, including an entirely alternate world, you restore water to the city, inspire a resistance group and change a monsters viewpoint. And the biggest one, you save children who look up to you while they're parents are stuck behind with only their worries.

Twilight Princess is essentially that one moment of Anton Ego eating the Ratatouillé. It makes you remember EVERYTHING YOU LOVED ABOUT VIDEOGAMES.

Some trivia for TP's mechanics that I think is fun/funny is that in the horseback Ganondorf fight, Zelda is programmed to fire in the direction you're moving, so if she misses, it's because you're not actually following Ganondorf properly like she asks you too. Her aim is only as good as yours.

Midnas lament playing as you desperately try to get to zelda is the best moment of all legend of zelda for me because it makes me feel the panic and helplessness in the moment every time even though I know what's coming
