  If you want to develop your own art style, start by drawing your original characters while imitating the art style of your favorite manga artists. At first, it will be obvious whose influence is evident in your work, but as you absorb various influences, they will blend together and evolve into your unique art style.

  an art style is like your own personality, the good, the bad, and the weird.<br>EDIT: and also it develops the more you take in more things and form your own ideas, you can base your ideas on things you like or dislike but it has to come from you.

  There is a quote from the Animator’s survival kit by Richard Williams from his mother who used to do illustrations. She told him to “forget art style and focus on the drawing itself.” Those words really stuck and makes me think that a perfect art style is a high expectation and subjective. Your points are valid and you have interesting names that I might look up at some point. Observation is a good way to add realism as well and yes, even going outside.

Because I am a 20+ yrs multi instrumentalist &nbsp;and writing music is all about balance between opposing melodies, harmony, dynamics and more....very cool objective way to look at art and more

  Correction on bleach: the style isn&apos;t realistic because it&apos;s more detailed, it&apos;s about proportion. The majority of manga faces are drawn with a similar amount of line information disregarding hatching, even berserk, so the difference lies in how far the proportions deviate from reality. Bleach has stylized facial forms, but the forms are much closer to their real life lengths and distances from eachother than say MHA, which also has a lot of detail on the face from hatching, but doesn&apos;t look &quot;realistic.&quot;

  Love this! I grew up largely influenced by Japanese artists, and I began to develop my style at 16. I remember someone in school, telling me that the way I drew was hard to describe, but it just made them feel good, and seemed fun. This was a huge compliment, since I also always doubted my work. I had to set my style in a certain way, ensuring it looked right with all the many different worlds and characters I had in my head. I didn&apos;t want it to look too silly, but also didn&apos;t want it to look to serious or too realistic, &quot;fun&quot; and &quot;cool&quot; is what I went for.<br><br>Video games were/are a huge part of my life. I have great memories growing up playing them with my brothers/friends, and the fun I had way back in high school creating a game based on a little comic my brother and I created as kids, after being inspired by a trip to the Planetarium, and our childhood imaginary characters, pretending the car was a spaceship going to different worlds, we called it &quot;Planetary War Chronicles Armament of Volition&quot;. I would also say, music and mostly sound effects have influenced my style, which I can&apos;t explain really. <br><br>If I had to name any artist who also had an influence on me, it would be Tetsuya Nomura and Joe Madureira, my style could be described as if the two of them had a kid, their art I mean. Recently I threw a sketch of mine into Chatgpt, and while it did state it saw influence from Tetsuya Nomura, and Joe Madureira, it also mentioned Jim Lee, and Shinichiro Watanabe, which I don&apos;t see at all. Though the most creepy thing, is that it saw that the main character was slightly modeled after both Chris Hemsworth (Thor Ragnarok) and Alan Ritchson (Fast X). I had even given him the same color scheme of the Navy blue and black, from the armored car scene.

  I think one thing this video kind of glosses over with the whole realism vs stylization comparison is the sense of 3D forms. Dandadan is a perfect example of a style that is quite simplified but has an AMAZING sense of form. It sells the art as &apos;realistic&apos; and the consistency of shapes really helps you see the 3D-positioning of things in space. This is in contrast to other art styles mentioned like One Piece&apos;s manga which has an extremely flat feel to it (which is NOT a bad thing!!). Just look at one of Oda&apos;s panels with a large crowd of people, there is a very apparent lack of depth but that is exactly what makes his style so enjoyable to look at. It gives his style a sense of whimsy, and its a great compliment to the unique sense of scale many of his characters have!
