You wanna know what "real food" really looks like?

It's the meatballs in my freezer I made using ground turkey and egg and breadcrumbs from my own homemade sandwich bread.

Which was made with flour, salt, oil and buttermilk that I cultured, myself.

It's the sesame seed rolls, English muffins, hoagie rolls and bagels in my freezer, NONE of which come from any grocery store, but from my own kitchen.

It's the bone broth and corn stock on my shelf that I canned, sitting next to the strawberry and blackberry jam that I canned, next to the peach slices and cherries and corn that I also canned.

It's the bag of celery leaves, carrot heels, onion skins and bones in my freezer for the next batch of broth.

It's the Kimchi and sauerkraut in my cupboard fermenting, next to my vanilla motherjar of vanilla beans and vodka. It's the apple cider vinegar mother I've had for years and years.

It's the bacon grease next to my stove, the tallow I scooped off the top of my beef broth, strained and keep in a jar in the fridge.

It's the fridge that has home brewed iced tea, lemonade made from lemons, whole milk and water as the only beverages besides tea and coffee in this house.

That's what real food looks like. It doesn't come with an ingredient list. It comes from recipes, techniques, practices and systems learned, rediscovered and handed down.

And it is not replaced with trendy, overpriced buzzwords and great marketing.

I do a rotation each month. 1 roasted organic chicken from the co-op. I make stock from the carcass. I use the stock weekly to make various soups. I buy organic produce weekly. Each week I meal plan. At the end of the week I make soup. This summer I've made a variety of chopped salads. Homemade vinegrettes. Yogurt with seeds-hemp, chia, flax, and fruit for breakfast. I buy 1/8 of a grass fed cow, yearly to work into the rotation. Our local butcher gets fresh turkey breasts, and I stock the freezer with those. I'm near the ocean, so buy fish from the docks and can tuna, salmon, and razor clams during the season. I make and can applesauce and crushed tomatoes yearly, and grow and freeze beans and peas.
I also freeze peaches, and dry plums, apricots, and cranberries. I grow and dhydrate herbs too.

I doubt that 8£ manuka in the supermarket is really manuka 😂
As for sodium nitrate that’s in almost all processed meats- it causes cancer. They say they do it to preserve, but really it’s what gives meat pink colour so it’s about looks as people wouldn’t want to buy grey ham. I bet there’s tons of it in that gammon you recommend too.
Big wild fish like tuna and salmon are highly polluted with mercury so best to reduce and opt for small fish like sardines.
Rapeseed oil is actually a great oil but only when it’s extra virgin cold pressed- then it’s comparable with evoo but with very high smoking point.
