  Just fyi, it is customary in Japan to serve the hot towel at the beginning of the meal and to leave it until the end. This is not a training issue or some lack of attention to detail. It is proper etiquette. The idea is that your fingers might get dirty or sticky and you will have a damp towel to clean them. Depending upon the formality level of the meal/restaurant (or lack thereof), the towel may be paper and come in a plastic sleeve like in your second meal.

  The JAL experience most people rave about is the airline as a whole. Emirates for example has a halo effect where their first class absolutely is top of the top, but economy? Its nice but you&apos;re probably not going to rave about it.<br>JAL however their economy is done with as much distinction (for economy). <br><br>Their Business is solid, and fights up there but may sometimes be lacking and I agree there are some seats that currently fly that needs to be binned. <br><br>But its the airline as a whole that most of the fans enjoy. And as Zipair grows i think we&apos;ll see JAL lean on the premium side of their business more even for economy and let Zip capture the budget conscious. <br><br>It&apos;s ironic that both JAL and ANA have some shockingly meh J seats on both their 787s. Luckily they&apos;re both looking to update soon. <br><br>PS Qantas will also be using this seat on the 350ULR and have a very very similar density configuration as JAL.

  1. tbf, the towel is expected to be there so you can use it throughout the meal if your hands get sticky or whatever. Pretty common when you dine in Japan<br>2. Just wait till you see the wear and tear on ANA seats lol. From my experience they have been degrading at a faster rate than JAL&apos;s seats. Also, it&apos;s quite funny that The Room seat width is actually wider than their first class seat. Was very surprised to find that I flew their first class. It&apos;s also not comparable at all to JAL&apos;s new first in A350. Hopefully you get to review these later.

  People appreciate JAL because their economy class is excellent: great seat pitch, great meals, and generally good/consistent service. Notably on the 787 Dreamliners, it&apos;s 2-4-2 configuration which provides even more room.

  The towel is really for you to use during the meal as a lot of times Japanese meal use hands to enjoy the meal (think sushi and the packet rice if you choose the japanese option), and then there&apos;s the call button for you to ask for any service.

  Their cabin service is the most graceful and quietly attentive out of all the major full-service airlines I&apos;ve flown, right down to economy class.

  On JAL you just need to press the call button for anything, they come running over and will take care of it. Drinks, snacks etc - super personal.
