I have extended family (on my wife's side) in the US and I remember having a discussion with her older brother and he said that the Canadians and the allied forces HELPED the United States win the 1st and 2nd world wars. I calmly pointed out to him that Canada joined World War I three years before the US entered the war and after he Goggled it he said "Hmmm". Then I pointed out that Canada joined World War II two years before the US did and he Googled it and said "You're right". He didn't speak much to me the rest of the night, I always wondered why. Canadians know how much we contributed to and sacrificed for in both World Wars, one of those people was my father. Cheers from southern Ontario!

This comment is going to be long!
Canada developed its own nuclear power called the CANDU system. It is specifically designed not to create nuclear byproducts for weapons.
Rather than using enriched uranium as fuel, CANDU systems use its high grade uranium (remember the video you did on uranium in Saskatchewan?) and a heavy water reactor. It is a great topic for a video. Canada also supplied the uranium for the first nuclear weapon. It was shipped to Tennessee where it was enriched.
Canada entered the war in 1939, by independently declaring war on Germany. The first time it had ever been done.
It created a lend lease to Britain to fund the war effort. Canada almost went bankrupt, because it was buying weapons from the USA and sending them to Britain. When the USA entered, Canada integrated the Canadian lend lease with the American one. Britain did pay them all back, the last payment to the USA was in 2006. Just 20 years ago!
The video mentions training pilots, but we also built hurricane aircraft for Britain. There is a Heritage minute on Elise MacGill, who was the first woman aeronautical engineer, who oversaw the building of them, even though she had polio.
Montgomery was, in my opinion, not a good general. He didn’t like “colonials”, saw them as inferior to British soldiers. He made many costly mistakes, including not paying attention to intelligence for the Market Garden operation.

A personal experience. When I was in university, for the summers, I would work on a railroad extra gang, that would change worn out rails of the track, about 350 kilometres from Sudbury Ontario. I would be 10 days in the isolated woods of northern Ontario. We would move to different locations all throughout the summer, depending on where the damaged rail was. We would be housed on ATCO units, which were mounted on flat cars.
We had just moved locations and we were attaching our antenna to a high tree (to get a tv signal) and I observed about 2 kilometres from where we were, a big clearing in the trees. I was curious so the next day after work we walked to it. I had brought my camera up, because I was into photography as a hobby. As we walked on the tracks, a gravel road appeared (out of nowhere) going towards the clearing I saw. As we walked, there was a huge concrete well weathered floor that appeared. It was big, like almost a half kilometre long. We saw rusty nails, and broken, rotten lumber.
Etched In the concrete was, what I found out later, was the German word for home. (hom, with a line over the “ o”). I took a few pictures of it and found that place to be a place where they put German POW’s. When I went back up to work, my friend and I searched the surrounding area to find any other stuff that was left when the camp was closed. Didn’t find anything else. 😕
It was really cool to be walking where German POWs lived, and cut down lumber to be used in the war.
Stay safe, stay sane, stay strong!🇨🇦
One day my roommate and I

The CANDU reactor is a Canadian-designed pressurized heavy-water reactor that generates electricity using natural, unenriched uranium

Don't ever feel bad about asking questions about what we've done or been part of. Most of the world and many Canadians have no clue. Everyone has always overlooked us and now we're stepping forward and taking a leading role. This shocks most of the world and we find it amusing that everyone has been so blind. We're just too quiet and modest

FYI the best nuclear reactor in the world is the CANDU reactor invented by Canada. And there is a new version is the SMR the small modular reactor.

It's wonderful to see a light shone on this. As a Canadian living in the US for years, I recall many occasions when WWII came into conversation, I was questioned in dismissive terms about Canada's contribution. It angered me greatly on two fronts, how sadly overlooked we Canadians were in our efforts and how deeply flawed the American education system was in promoting USA and minimalizing any other country. Just watch any Hollywood film on the second world war, of which there are many, and play "spot the Canadian". It'll make your brain hurt! If not the US or Britain, it's always "Allied Forces". Well, those "Allied Forces" were not insignificant and from an Allied Nation they should be recognized as such. As a smaller country by population Canada contributed arguably more in sweat and BLOOD than the US but, to Hollywood and the American education system, we're often a participation trophy afterthought.
In today's political climate I can't help but wonder how different things might be if Americans at all levels (including the President) were educated in school and film about who those "Allied Forces" were and how significantly they contributed (and still contribute). Canada in Europe, Australia in the south Pacific, and the list goes on endlessly. But ask an American, it was USA🗽... and perhaps some other guys.
