I was lucky enough to have seen R.L. live back in 1997 in a bar in Oxford Ms. He had a four piece electric band and brought the house down. The word on the street was when Mr Burnside was in town it was not to be missed and that was the truth!

That vocal inflection he uses at the end of a phrase, the shuffle, the phrasing. It’s all pure gold. RL Burnside should have a national holiday in his name.

The complexity of his riffs is crazy. It sounds sometimes like he's playing lead and rhythm guitar at the same time. His voice carries the decades of his hard life, weathered by the Mississippi heat, soaked in cigarettes and whiskey. Hill Country Blues is downright hypnotic.

I've come back to this video so many times over the years. Guy is a legend of music.

That rhythm on the first song is incredible. People complain about YouTube but it has definitely enriched my life ❤️🎸🎸
