“Nothing is worse than looking across the field at Bobby Dodd and knowing he wants to go home early.” -Bear Bryant

This story is so sad, but happy that bear and Dodd at least got to patch things up before it was too late. Life’s too short to breakup friendships over petty beef

Man it's wild to see this pop up on Beef History. My dad, uncle, and granddad were diehard bama fans and they used to talk about this event like it was world war 3. And it used to be in all the old media guides that Alabama put out every year before digital media took over. Nobody these days really talks about Georgia Tech like that, but I'm excited to go walking down memory lane

As a GT alum, I always wondered why Bama was in one of the fight songs. I knew we were OG SEC members, but didn’t know we had this level of beef with the great Bear Bryant! 😂🐝

I would like to see a Beef History between UAB vs Alabama with the Board of Regents and the Bryant Family.

More Beef History from before 1990, please!  I mean, we still haven't gotten one on Mike Ditka and Buddy Ryan!

Crazy to me that coaching with praise was a thing back in the day. I just thought all the old timers were mean. I love that people with two differing outlooks on life could be so mature as to overcome their differences and show respect for each other. The world could use more of that.

Bear Bryant attended Fordyce High School in Arkansas, as did Rams All-Pro End (todays version of a wide receiver) Jim Benton. Bryant teamed with All-America and future NFL All-Time great Don Hutson at Alabama. Hutson hailed from nearby Pine Bluff, Arkansas. When Benton retired from the NFL following the 1947 season, he ranked as the #2 receiver in NFL history, second only to Hutson. Hutson and Benton were the first two receivers in NFL history to exceed 1,000 yards receiving in an NFL season. All three men were All-America in college (Benton at the University of Arkansas). The three of these football greats all playing the same position and coming from the same area of such a small state has never been explored afaik. NFL history is fascinating.
