I'll never forget the time I was visiting my dad who lived in WV, in the holler. We were putting up some tents down in the bottom, his house was still in view of where we were, and we heard a horrifying shriek and a deer came running out of the woods. I freaked thinking it was hurt, but my dad just calmly told me to turn around and not look, so I did. I looked up at him and this 6'4" behemoth of a man who everyone joked was built like a viking, had his eyes closed shut so tightly that he was shaking. I grabbed his hand and shut my eyes too. The forest was absolutely silent, no hum of bugs, no birds, no leaves rustling, no more sounds from the deer. But then, we heard a branch snap and I felt my father startle. My father, who was in the Navy, had lived in this region for most of his life, hunted all the time out here, he was scared of whatever he thought might be behind us. We stayed like that for a while until he told me that I could open my eyes. We packed up our tents and he decided we'd stay in town in a hotel. We never talked about it again, but I still get chills thinking about it.

My favorite part of Appalachia is my back yard. Sometimes the Mothman visits. Sometimes Sasquatch. But never the government.

Fun fact or not so fun… if someone is experiencing extreme hypothermia they may start to feel really warm all of a sudden and therefore take off their layers. Really scary.

I like watching disaster/disappearance videos in the background while I do crafts, and usually they’re so monotone and serious. This popped up in my recommended and his jokey tone was very refreshing, I think a lot of mystery/disaster videos lean very heavily into making the viewer feel sad or scared, and it was nice to be smiling while working today. Definitely found a new fav channel

The part where your dad was like "nope" was straight up my grandpa's reaction when I asked if he had seen anything creepy or weird in the last 50+ years of hunting

Bears are known to pounce and crush prey. They do it intentionally to disable prey without fully killing it. So crushing could have been a bear
