We are not new to owning RV’s. We have owned 5. We traded our truck and 34’ travel trailer and purchased a 4 yr old Class A DP in hopes to travel after retirement. We owned it for 7 yrs and drove it for over 30,000 miles so we did use it. The repair costs were crazy. Every oil change was at least $1,200. Another 3,000 on tires. The coach had 8 batteries. We spent over $12,000 in just repairs not maintenance. Also tags for the plates averaged was about $1,300.a year. The RV was 13 yrs old and after many discussions we sold it and purchased a truck and 25’ travel trailer and couldn’t be happier. My husband and I just retired so we have a home base and still have the freedom to travel when we want to. This is what works for us now.

Have had 40’ 5th wheel before. Moved to a 32’ class C. Will only go down from here. I’ll never own a big RV again. The anxiety isn’t worth it.

Very accurate. We are on our fourth motorhome and still enjoy RVing. The best times have been going with the grandkids all over the country. Just be aware of all the costs associated with RVing. And one thing not discussed is that basically no RV is well made. Again, just be aware. Before buying rent a few times to see if you really enjoy the lifestyle.

I like the video I've had 16 RVs in my lifetime. The biggest problem is the maintenance. With the parking the annoyance of the police. Everything else I can deal with

Very true facts in this video, I'm retired military and still working in El Paso. I have a home base and I'm known as a weekend warrior. Diesel pickup with a 32ft travel trailer. Mechanic by trade also CDL licensed. At 54, still have energy, started RV at 45. One of the best vacations of my life. I also have enough property to park my trailer I know I'm winning with this life. Would I do this again, in a heartbeat. Just got back from Durango CO. Rode the Durango to Silverton train, enjoyed the Bar D Chuckwagon. A lot of Logistics, but I do this daily with Border Patrol. Life has positives and negatives. Yolo, u only live once!

Let us not forget the 10 year rule, that most RV resorts have. My Southwind is a 2002, which will not get me into most of these RV resorts. I stick to state parks and KOAs. They treat retired military well and I usually reserve a spot way in advance. FYI, I am not a full timer and my RV is a gaser. I don’t use it enough to have a diesel pusher and I can do most of the maintenance. I also have a place big enough to store it.

Going camping in an RV is not easy, it requires maintenance, setup time, tear down time, and fitting into sites that sometimes are designed for frustration. The maintenance part is a problem these days where the quality has not kept up with the quantities being sold. We decided on a travel trailer for the simple reason that it would require less maintenance than a motorhome. Maintenance on a pickup truck is a lot less complicated and can be done at any dealer or third party shop while a motorhome can only be worked on at specialty shops that often are really backed up with work and can charge more for the work due to demand. Retirees (I am one), often don't want complexity or a problem that is basically a whole in the ground to throw money into, so the dream is sometimes not realistic.

Nobody who buys a car, TV, dishwasher, etc do not expect this as an investment... And each purchase has a scale... Motorhomes are very expensive in purchase and they require relevant maintenance and costs... You can buy a newer unit and pay depreciation costs, + huge bills. We bought 20+ years old DP, and the majority of the problems and maintanance I fix myself... it saves me sometimes up to 80% comparing to shop bills, so it ended to be sligthly more expensive than paying costs for a travel trailer and towing car....

This is the absolute truth!!!!!!! We did this and almost every time we'ed come back from a trip it went into the shop for something. Never under $3,000.00. .....5 yrs later we sold it.....:eyes-purple-crying:
