  Big George’s persona change from the young , aggressive, moody bully into an older confident intelligent genial smiling champion was amazing and l really liked him for it ….

  I remember hearing some man say that when he was a child and heard that Ali was fighting Foreman, he started crying not because he thought Ali would lose, he thought that Foreman was going to actually kill Ali in the ring.  That's how much of an underdog he was

  Ali’s victory over Forman was in my humble opinion the greatest sporting performance across all sports, not just boxing. To come up with a strategy and then implement it based on playing to your opponent’s strength which is to let him beat the absolute crap out of you for several rounds is audacious, courageous, insane and extraordinary. I still shake my head in disbelief at what Ali did on that night.

  To go that many rounds with a boxer who was actually filmed hitting a heavy bag so hard that he ruptured it, causing the stuffing to come out is a showcase of strategy, skill, strength, and endurance. Both of them are gone but not forgotten.

  Foreman stamina wasn't good because he never had to go too late in fights. Ali was a boxer Foreman was a mauler and a brawler. Ali could make adjustments as needed. His boxing I.Q. was next level.

  Ali's straight right was so quick it was almost like a jab. Insane. Some people transcend sport, Ali was one of them.

Part of the magnificence of that knockout was Ali&apos;s perfect efficiency of the entire sequence, culminating in watching Foreman circling around him on his way down. Hard to describe, but captures Ali&apos;s intelligence and awareness, to know that big George was finished at that moment. That was true greatness. Foreman said it himself, in an interview I saw some years ago.
