Nolan Ryan’s the all time strikeout king at 5714 and Randy Johnson is a distant second place at 4875. In fact Randy Johnson credits Nolan Ryan for helping him develop into the dominant pitcher he turned out to be. Nolan Ryan also has 7 no hitters, the most in the MLB. Sandy Koufax, the pitcher Nolan looked up to was in second at 4.

Old timers games are games where the stars of the league from decades ago come back and play against each other. Many are in their 70s or even 80s but it’s fun to see them have the same swing or pitch delivery they did at 30.

I grew up during the 1960s and 1970s, an era when pitchers DID deliberately throw at batters frequently, and it was, generally, accepted and considered part of the game. Pitchers from that era mentioned in this video: Bob Gibson, Al Hrabosky, Juan Marichal, and Nolan Ryan. Both Gibson and Hrabosky pitched for my favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, and Hrabosky was on the Cardinals the last six years of Gibson's career. I remember that game where Hrabosky and Bill Madlock had their battle. The Cardinals and Cubs have the oldest rivalry in baseball, dating back to the 1880s, and can get quite heated, as in that particular game. Bob Gibson pitched for the Cardinals his entire career (1959-1975). Hrabosky pitched for the Cardinals 1970-1977.

11:00 So that's not exactly what a no hitter is. A hit in this case means that you hit the ball in fair play and made it to a base without a fielding error. And there are 3 outs in an inning, so to get through 8 innings you need to have gone through 24 batters without any of them getting a hit.

In all of MLB history there have been 326 no-hitters, with the first one dating back to 1876.

Bob Gibson would NOT fear Carlos Zambrano. Zambrano was not a "tough" guy, he was just a hothead. Hotheads are easy to crush in a fight, because they're stupid and just start throwing crazy punches. Guys like that don't last long in a real fight. The smarter guy will take them out. . .Yes, they will. Zambrano threw at people because he wasn't a great pitcher. And since he was 6-4 and 275 lbs he thought he was a badass. Again, guys like that will get taken down by a smarter, real tough guy like Bob Gibson or Don Drysdale or Nolan Ryan.
