One of Washington’s greatest achievements as President was making Alexander Hamilton the first Secretary of the Treasury.

It was so important that Hamilton thought of the country as a whole and not by a state by state basis due to being born outside the USA. Even sixty years after Hamilton’s death Robert E. Lee struggled and made a massive mistake in siding with his loyalty to the state of Virginia opposed to the Country as a whole.

Whatever you think of Hamilton’s other policies and beliefs, Americans owe him a great debt of gratitude for pushing the states toward unity. We would never have been able to accomplish 1/10 of what we have if we hadn’t come together.
