Even for that beast of a workstation, that amount of RAM in 1993 was titanic.

Nice. At work I had a R5000 Indy with 128MB before we shifted to DEC Alpha. I have an old IRIX 5.3 R4400SC Indy in the garage that I should really bring back to life.

I had a friend who worked in IT at a large school board in the early 2000's. Once when he went to one of the k-8 grade schools to set up some new Mac's, and he found ~5 or so of these in the computer lab. He immediately began to ask questions and no one at the school had any idea what they were or why they were there. According to one of the teachers they were set up in the 90's and basically sat unused because they didn't have any of the children's educational software- mind you this was a k-8 school. IT at the school board was also a complete mess with very lax inventory control, so he packed one up and took it home. I recall when I was at his house and he was showing me the system he stated that as configured they were ~$30K each. I was absolutely disgusted that tax dollars were wasted in this manner. I think he flipped it on eBay. I did look at listing at the time and they were not selling for much.

I was young and naive at the time and thought that there was likely some perfectly logical explanation for it- however not long after, I myself got a job at a gov contractor and began to see first hand how literally millions of dollars were all but set of fire in purchasing unnecessary hardware that simply sat unused before being discarded. It was absolutely blood boiling and it black-pilled me.

In 1995 I have a PC running windows 3.1 with 8MB of ram, which I upgraded to 12MB. It had a 400MB hdd and a 486 DX 66Mhz cpu. This SG machine would be a beast.

Bruh. Doom on that machine is smooth as silk.

You're blessed to be young enough to not have experienced gaming in the 90s on an average or below average spec PC.
