I'm pretty sure Dire Straits "I Want My MTV" music video was a defining video... and the song an anthem of the MTV Generation.

Gorillaz was created because the founders felt there was no substance on MTV and they could do better even with a cartoon band. "Feel Good Inc" is about the commodification of addictions, and how many people are chasing their next fix in order to feel okay. This iconic band is still relevant, observant, and going strong today.
