The long hair on men was the reason for societal confusion in the late 60’s and early ‘70’s referring to the ‘woman or a man?” line.

You can't leave out the fact that this was recorded live.  Might be one of the greatest live recordings ever

Back in the day, rock musicians (men) were among the first with long hair and more flamboyant clothing styles, so they were sometimes criticized by the more conservative public (hence the "is that a woman or man" lyric). Styles have changed a lot since then!

I imagine every singer/songwriter wishes they’d written this song. It’s like autobiographical for a musician

"Same old clichés, is that a woman or a man ?"  This was Truth back in the early 70's when this song was written. Rockers with their long hair in someplace like Omaha would get that type of reaction walking into a restaurant back then. The USA was A Much different time & place than today.

Youngsters! This was the 70s, long hair was frowned upon by older people. They were giving them crap about their long hair - “is that a woman or a man?”.

I'm 74.  It brings me joy to see you and your GF digging the music of my late teens and early 20s.

"The sounds of the Amplifiers still ringing in your head." This can be taken literally as "Back in the Day" the onstage sound volume was EXTREMELY LOUD. Ear Plugs ? In the 70's ? You'd be laughed out of the business. The Only way to get the needed volume back then was to bring as much power as you could and then turn it up to 11. Back in the 70's if you saw stacks of amps on stage , it wasn't for show all those amps were delivering LOUD Amplified sound. 😎
