I think the fact that areas in Paldea are called "area 3 region 2" or whatever the fuck really speaks to how hollow and devoid of life they are. And sure, Pokémon always had "route 4" between two towns, but it's way different when it's just the name of a literal path between two places, and not the name of a whole region. There is no way a living breathing population would decide to call their ancestral region "area 5", it feels like they are aliens who just landed on a new planet they are colonising and they gave the regions get these cold clerical names because they have no attachment to them yet

Imagine a Unova Legends game where you're restricted to Nimbasa city and you can't even ride the ferris wheel 😭😭😭

30:40 The village man isn't speaking jibberish, but untranslated japanese. This technically makes it one of if not the first moments of voice acting in a pokemon game. The song is called "Tasogare Oyaji", and has beautiful remixes.

Out of all the features removed and forgotten throughout the years, the lack of Secret Bases in the modern games is beyond baffling. What's the point of multiplayer with your friends if you can't do anything outside of battling and trading? You can't even decorate your room in Scarlett/Violet

I have said it before; in short: modern Pokemon games have become MONSTER CATCHING SIMULATIONS and nothing more. There has been more of a focus on having so many monsters to catch in one game rather than prioritizing a balance of that and world/story building. Pokemon Sc/Vi + DLC had at least 700 Pokemon to catch if you wanted to complete the Pokédex: that’s, already, about 3/4 of the national dex used in one game. I would rather see at least 120/130 new monsters and more time focused on making a unique region with interesting design and lore to help build up an enjoyable experience for the players. This is all just my opinion.

Hoenn will always be peak region design, I know Hoenn like the back of my hand, Pokemon games always excelled in the world building and lore, that was always my favourite aspect of the games was exploring and learning lore, i also wish they kept the secret bases from Hoenn in the games because that was such a fun feature I wish they hadn’t removed

Your videos on the Pokemon regions have shaped how I look at designing towns and cities in my project.

I feel like I've heard this exact "Have you considered that I would be *the big sad*"
"Sorry son, but I gotta chase this bag, and as I always told you growing up, only fake homies hate on the bag"
Story 3 times now somehow

Man, this video just reminded me how I used to LOVE Pokemon games. Watching the decline like this is so sad for me.
Pokemon Black/White was the last great Pokemon game, and Sun/Moon was like the final goodbye to Game Freaks as a good developer.
One of my most memorable and favorite things in Pokemon games were how you could enter in a random house in a town and it turns out to be some completely unexpected area, like an abandoned house with ghosts and stuff. This is something you rarely see in RPGs, and it's what proof that Game Freaks actually cared about those games. Now we are lucky if a house has an interior...
