Most planners talk about a percentage withdrawal rate and never take into account where you money is invested is also very important. 75 percent of mine is in my non reg and TFSA. The rest is just employee matched RRSP's. I can keep my income on paper very low. Pay almost no income tax. Huge saving and keeps the percent you need withdraw much lower. Glad you mentioned that at the end

Great video. It is a realistic income each month to get to for a moderate retirement.

I'd have a hard time spending 8k monthly as a single. Even with a 20k travel budget. Maybe if I moved to a more expensive rental in this big city.

15 k from lif ,15 k from small rrif, 25 k from larger rrif, 30 k from unregistered gic's , 15k from small defined pension and oas and not taking full ccp, and will income split and these are all minimun withdrawals on 2M

Toyin, on this topic of a steady retirement income, I'm still looking forward to your video on annuities as offered by Sun Life or Manulife.
Perhaps you can even get either of them to sponsor the video 😉

True, I know of recently retired teacher couples with combined pensions, indexed for life over $10,000 a month, pre-tax.
I know of a single retired Ontario Hydro workers with pension over $100,000 annually pre-tax. Indexed to inflation for life. No personal savings required.

The rest of the workforce, not public sector, needs to retire later, save and invest. Using 90% CPP and 100% OAS the market portfolio will require $1.4 million at 5% to generate $7k a month, after-tax. It is a huge gap to have a secure retirement.

At some point, the gold plated public sector pensions need to go to defined contribution plans, not defined benefit, subsidized by taxpayers.
Public sector pensions paid out today are greater than the total of all private sector pensions. Let that sink in.
