  That&apos;s my problem with solo leveling: characters that could be very interesting plot wise or combat wise can&apos;t because they aren&apos;t the main character.

  Just a note, but Ilhwan Sung&apos;s original rank was never specified (as he was trapped in a gate before the ranking system was put in place), but he was unlikely to have been an S or even an A rank hunter. Jinwoo never described him as particularly powerful. He was likely a B rank originally. <br><br>His strength when he returns is entirely from the deal he makes with the Rulers, so it&apos;s kind of misleading to put him on the list of S Ranks. He&apos;s actually the only hunter working directly for the Rulers. Gunhee Go had portion of a Ruler inhabiting his body but was not aware of this (similar to how Ashborn was inhabiting Jinwoo&apos;s body and laying dormant but granting Jinwoo his power). It&apos;s never actually made clear if the national level hunters had an actual Ruler consciousness inside them the same way Gunhee did. They were given powers directly by the Rulers but never had an actual Ruler take control of their body. <br><br>Also technically Gunhee Go was the strongest S class in South Korea by level of energy until Jinwoo surpasses him. Haein Cha was number 2 btw. He couldn&apos;t actively fight, so I suppose he&apos;s the &quot;weakest&quot; in terms of active combat ability, but just saying if we&apos;re measuring by energy level, Goto, the top Japanese hunter evaluated him near the top of the Japanese S ranks in strength.

  Correction: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeawOL_63mU&amp;t=610">10:10</a> It’s actually confirmed by the author that Jin Woo&apos;s father wasn&apos;t a vessel of a ruler. The seventh ruler vessel was apparently an African Dictator who was killed by China&apos;s vessel ruler. So duing this time, there hasn&apos;t been a 7th.
