  I’ve lived in Malibu since 1970,  built my first house in 1971,it’s still standing. Built a new house in 2001on 5 acres backed my Mational Park Property. Rode out the Wolsey fire here . Have my own fire pump, 10,000 gallon storage tank filled with my own well. A generator capable of powering the whole house, the well and pressure pumps, even air conditioning. Half of the homes in this community were burned down. Some were rebuilt. I had no structural damage. The native plants do quite well in a fire as long as you keep them trimmed and clear of debris. Springtime is a busy time of year preparing for the Fire season. I’m 81 years old now but still do much of this work myself.  If you want to save your home you need to prepare-and  be equipped to stay.

  Everything I owned was burned in the Palisades fire. I left when my roof was on fire. I am still devastated!

  Excellent, thank you!<br><br>I was born Santa Monica 1950 to an eccentric Malibu surfing family … who declared it all too crowed by early 60’s. So we moved to NS Oahu.<br><br>But what I remember most about Malibu were the fires. As a kid it was extremely traumatic … so the sudden screams &amp; horns of fire engines haunted me well into my 20’s.<br><br>I remember how my parents would always comment, “Never A Dull Moment in Malibu” referring to all their nutty neighbors as if they were not just as nutty.<br><br>Then in ‘74, I spent a Summer back there to surf … and used to enjoy visiting gorgeous Pacific Palisades for coffee &amp; treat. So seeing it all burn down was devastating as it still all feels like home. I worked at the Colony Pharmacy and so was really sad to see that iconic roundish building was not preserved. They had the best chocolate malts over in the restaurant section. <br><br>Because I first learned to surf at San Onofre, LOVED the 60’s pic that you included into this documentary!<br><br>Lastly, never understood why the movie stars had left Malibu in the 30’s and didn’t return till the 60’s. Ha … it was because of that massive 30’s fire. Thank you for that one!

  I lived in Malibu in the mid- 1970&apos;s into 1980&apos;s. A little wooden house on the beach, north of Topanga, towards Big Rock. <br>Incredible community and great memories. We were evacuated twice. Fires came up to the ridge, but never jumped the road. &nbsp;This last fire in January 2025, my neighbor stayed to try and save his house- sent me a video of all the houses burning on the beach... including mine. I left many years ago, but it was so sad. I wanted to bring my granddaughter to visit Malibu, show her where her Mom caught sandcrabs, dragged seaweed out if the surf and popped the bulbs. <br> Great memories mixed with Hollywood friends who added their zany behaviors on every visit. <br>The Malibu Feed Bin was a landmark intro to beach &amp; Malibu ranch life.<br>Thank you for this wonderful historical trip down memory lane.

  I visited Malibu in the 70s with my dad. He wanted to return to Long Beach, where he had lived 10 years before. It was breathtaking in the early 70s.

  As someone born and raised in Southern California I’ve driven PCH hundreds of times and eaten in the wonderful Malibu restaurants. I never knew the history and thoroughly enjoyed this video.

  I was born and raised at 118 Malibu Colony Drive, which my father, who was a screenwriter for MGM had bought in 1957 for $36,000. &nbsp;It was for a time the last home on the southern end of the strip of homes. &nbsp;My neighbors were Cher, Lana Turner, Larry Hagman, Jack Warden and several other noteworthy celebrities, but most of the people living there were lawyers, doctors, business people. &nbsp;Another neighbor was Giles Welsh, who was the son of one of the only two pilots who were airborne during Pearl Harbor and famous for shooting down several Japanese aircraft during the attack. &nbsp;In the 70s Malibu and the Colony was a quiet and simple place. &nbsp;As the 80s came on, it changed dramatically and my family moved out. &nbsp;My father sold the home to Valerie Harper (Rhoda), and she eventually sold it to Michael Tannenbaum who was CEO of Bear Sterns who lost it all in the 2008 financial crisis. &nbsp;I miss the old days, and hate progress. &nbsp;It has not been for the better, believe me.

  I went to Pepperdine in the 80s and it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve had the privilege to live in it’s sad to see fire after fire😢

  I live here at County Line, the site of the ancient Chumash village of Alqilkowi 8,500 years ago. Breathtaking beauty and historic significance abound.
