  this song is the villain song, sung by Judge Frollo, the religious French Minister of Justice who is lusting for the Romani girl Esmeralda. she wants nothing to do with the old man, so he locks her up in the cathedral and says she will be burned at the stake as a witch if she doesn&apos;t marry him. in the cathedral she meets the hunchback Quasimodo. <br>it&apos;s the darkest of all the disney movies.

  if i remember correct geoff the bass singers classified his voice as a barritone with a bass range

  Due to its release date, it was eligible to be considered for a 2025 Grammy. YouTube reactor The Charismatic Voice put it forth to be considered for nomination in the a Capella (and other things) category. Unfortunately it didn’t garner enough votes to get nominated status. But we all still love it anyway. <br><br>The shadowy figure during the conversation part of the song was portrayed by former VP member and PattyCake Productions cofounder Tony Wakim and voiced by the rock god himself, Eli.

  Always glad to see more VoicePlay! Geoff didn&apos;t want to do this one because the villain is so despicable, but Layne was persistent. Of course, Geoff killed it. Former VP baritone and Pattycake co-owner, Tony Wakim, was drafted to play the guard, who was voiced by Eli. Their patrons at the tiers with downloads also receive a karaoke track. The outro is a bit of that. VoicePlay included this song on their &quot;VoicePlay Villains&quot; CD they released in Fall 2024. VP should be dropping their Sept. video before too long. <br>If you want to check out Geoff&apos;s highest note in a video, check out VoicePlay&apos;s <i>Peaches</i> short. Layne arranged that one too!

  Wow, another reaction to one of my all-time favourites! Layne really outdid himself with arranging this dark masterpiece and didn&apos;t go easy on anyone, including himself. Everyone is absolutely <i>bringing it</i> here. I&apos;ve listened to it probably over a hundred times, and I <b>still</b> find new details, it&apos;s so intricate. (Like that spine-tingling bass drop Geoff does in the background of Eli&apos;s powerful, sky-high notes. And don&apos;t get me started on Layne&apos;s &quot;Burn it!&quot; That&apos;s pretty unforgettable even by VoicePlay standards.)<br>Geoff is singing from the POV of the sanctimonious, heavily prejudiced and hateful Minister Frollo, who fell in lust with Esmeralda and blames his sinful thoughts on her. At first torn between conflicting desires and a little self-aware, he desperately asks for salvation - but is unable to admit own flaws and guilt, unwilling to let Esmeralda go. So he falls ever further into fanatism and wrath, delusion and obsession. It&apos;s really no surpise that an open-minded guy and devoted husband like Geoff took years of convincing to portray Frollo. Fratricidal Lions and Sea-Witches are much more fun to play than such a <i>despicable yet unsettlingly realistic</i> villain. But what a performance!

  This is one of my absolute favorites from Voiceplay. I am so happy Layne made it his project and insisted Geoff did the lead vocals here. The ending shows how much Layne loves taking everyone and especially Geoff to their vocal extremes 🥰

  As I understand it, the original version of the song has the same rising “or she … will … burn” line, and the singer wanted the song changed because he couldn’t get that high, but they trained him to get higher instead. Here bass master Geoff does the same line, then goes even higher repeating “she will burn.”

  This is the story of a man tormented by the fact that he simultaneously desires and resents the beautiful Esmeralda. In the beginning, the BGVs in that choral portion &nbsp;(dum dum dum) sounds like church bells tolling. It makes Frollo, &nbsp;a high ranking member of the church, even more detestable. &nbsp;I always thought that Frollo was a one dimensional twisted evil man in that movie. I did not see any humanity in him. <br><br>But in the VoicePlay version you can see and hear his struggle. Just after Layne says “burn it”, Geoff sings “the fire within my skin” and as he’s doing so he’s staring at his hands as if he is confused by his mania. And then that descent into madness begins. And at the end he is truly consumed.🔥🔥🔥<br><br>There is so much to unpack in this. I had to listen over a dozen times before I heard some of the details like Geoff’s arpeggios while J is singing. &nbsp;And when the guard is telling Frollo that she has gone, you can hear the BGV’s’s singing “gyp-sy es-caped”.

  A bit of trivia: &nbsp;While Friends on the Other Side was the first shoot to have four generations of VoicePlay baritones on set together, this one is the first to have them all on camera together - Layne, Tony, J, and Cesar!
