  As a CO, the best defense I saw against one on one with a knife was a plastic chair. The chair served as a gap between the guy with the knife and bought enough time for staff to come and intervene. He didn&apos;t have to fight at all just kept the chair in front of him in the air and pinned the guy with the knife against a wall. His quick thinking saved his life.

  Having done 10 years in prison in California, and also having seen the handiwork of both knife attacks and also lock in a sock attacks, in reality, almost every one of those whacks across the head with the lock would have had the judo practitioner opened up and leaking like a stuck pig. The knife attack would have equally been as bad, and he was right to focus in on that attacker, but it truly is a no win situation, and if adrenaline doesn&apos;t help you to survive the attack, who knows what will when it all wears off and you&apos;ve bled out. He would have had a better chance at a 1 v 1 with the lock in the sock guy or the knife guy, or both empty handed like they usually do for a &quot;dp&quot; discipline (when they beat you up for breaking a rule). This is extremely entertaining, but largely sits in the realm of the dubious and hypothetical. Not trying to be a naysayer, but after having seen a few dudes get their skulls totally opened with lock attacks and also people totally bled out into not being here anymore from knife attacks, we need to understand how serious the inevitablies can be. Stay outta prison y&apos;all.
