  In between coats try not to rub your hands/fingers across the epoxy table as you will leave grease marks from your skin and this also causes problems.Clean your table again with warm water to remove any unseen stains.

What carries that heat from the flame to the epoxy are the products of the combustion, which are carbon dioxide and water vapor, which are shooting out of the flame primarily in the direction you are pointing the torch at a very high speed, between 1200 to 1700 meters per second for a propane torch. These molecules crash into and transfer energy to air molecules, and then the high speed air molecules crash into the surface of the epoxy, transferring their energy to the epoxy and the air bubbles, which we perceive as heating the surface. The now higher temperature air bubbles expand, decrease in density, and so become more buoyant in the resin, so they rise and burst through the surface. This incidentally is exactly how your skin gets burned if you put your hand too close to the torch-- the CO2 and H2O and subsequently hot air transfer their energy to your skin-- not a good idea.
