I used to frequent 4chan. The site's gone now, though I believe 8chan is still around. While a lot of what happened there was trolling, and yes—there were people who genuinely enjoyed causing harm—what often gets left out is that many users actively pushed back. There were always people warning others not to engage with dangerous content, calling out bad behavior, and reporting posts in an effort to get them taken down before they spread.
That said, 4chan was built around a kind of “free speech at all costs” mentality. If someone was gullible enough to fall for something harmful, the mindset was “they got what they deserved.” But not everyone there bought into that. Some of us really did try to keep people safe.
Anonymity makes it easy for people to be cruel without consequences, and watching that play out over time was disheartening. Btw love your channel! You guys make my day! Thank you :)
