You can find 12 to 24 V in the garage opener, no need for a separate power supply…

Great video, Tim! I’ve just installed a UniFi Relay to control both of my Hörmann SupraMatic Gen 3 garage door openers, and the solution works perfectly.
The installation was very straightforward, as the garage door openers provide a 24V output that can be used to power the UniFi Relay directly. It makes for a very clean and simple setup!
It would be great, though, to have the possibility of integrating door position sensors, so that the actual open/closed status of the garage door could be monitored directly in UniFi.

Just as a FYI, if your home network is VLAN'd like mine. You want the SuperLink Gateway device on your "Protect" VLAN. I originally tried to put my SuperLink on my IOT network and it wouldn't connect/function(although it powered up). As soon as I put it on my "Protect" VLAN, it instantly came online, downloaded updates, link turned from white to blue, and the relay was detected(which it couldn't detect before).

Highly highly highly recommend putting a small surge protector on the outlet supplying power to your garage door opener. We had a lightning storm last year that completely fried our opener.

Sadly in my state we don't have front plates on our vehicles. But it's nice to see how the set up works, as I can see options that could work well with this. We don't always park in the garage, but if I didI could add a camera along our long driveway to open a gate. I would just dread running a wire through the basement and down the hill across the lawn to reach the driveway on the far side of the creek. Definitely a future project idea. Thanks for this video, I'm glad I found it!

I dunno. Ratgdo seems like pretty solid alternative plus it can read various garage door states.

This is cool but I gather from watching that this doesn't have any sense of whether the door is open or shut, right? It just says "See license plate, send signal", so if the door was already open it would close as you were pulling into the driveway, correct? It also wouldn't know if the door failed to close successfully.

My MyQ devices include an accelerometer mounted to each garage door, so it always knows the relative position of the door. It would be interesting if Ubiquiti offered such a device.

I liked this buddy, and I am with you on the myQ setup. good physical garage door opener but the tech side of it, very very basic, for me at least.

First neighborhood where everyone takes care of their lawns. Now you need a robotic mower so you can watch it with all those cameras like I do.

Without the cameras you need to use the protect app. No widgets for iOS protect app. Also if you have a 2.0 security door, you will need an extra device like the Garadget wired dry contact adapter. In my case I soldered leads to a spare remote control buttons and connected to relay 1&2. This works okay. Sometimes it takes 3 taps in the protect app to open the door after a long gap between use. Also you have no position sensor. Thanks for the video!
