Remember eagerly waiting for this Essential mix. Stayed up until 2am til 4am to record it on my TDK cassette! At the time the mix just blew me away. 90% of the tracks i hadn't heard before. Unearthing some absolute gems from his record box. Hooligan - Hear You Now (Grand Chillas Mix) is an amazing opening gambit. It sets the tone. Tracks blend nicely together, proggy vocal trance, chunky beats and melodic trance. Chiller Twist - Stringz Unlimited (Shelley Mix) is spine tingling. He also showcased some of his own productions throughout. Obsession, Lethal Industry and Urban Train. Towards the end he cranks it up a notch with Katana - Fancy Fair, a hard as nails tech trance banger. Then his own Urban Train. At the end, i like it how he winds down the mix, with the tech house Ivan - Gorki and Max Graham. This mix STILL puts a smile on my face. Shame he plays pants these days!

Aside from how great the productions of Tiesto and his team were back in Black Hole Recording days, Tiesto was just such an absolute master of set construction and arrangement. Was the number 1 DJ because his sets were quite literally like atmospheric journies...every track tied together and ordered so incredibly well. I just don't see it these days, especially because of how trance in general has changed in sound.

This mix still gives me chills. This mix is everything that was great about trance back in the day.

A few months after this essential mix Tiesto played at club Exit NYC for a 6 hour set. Was unlike anything I had ever heard up to that point.  Was quite literally one of the most amazing experiences of my life.  I still think about that night all the time wishing to go back.

Makes me cry to think how awesome this guy was.  Luckily I saw him back in the early 2000's , saw him in Dallas a few years ago and he opened with mission impossible soundtrack, that was the beginning of the end for me

One of my favourite sets back in the day.  I remember recording this music casette tape when it first aired in 2001,  did the first 45 mins but fell asleep before i could switch it over.   Did wake up to catch the last 30 mins though.   I  genuinely wore that tape our relistening - now I wear out this Youtube video.
