I can understand how people get confused with licensing. The best way I ever heard licensing explained was in rental terms. Most people that rent apartments/houses don't own them. When the rental contract is finished, the apartment goes back to the landlord/owner to rent it to someone else. Renting = Licensing. The music creator is the landlord/owner (licensor) and the vocalist/rapper is the renter/tenant (licensee).
