I have to admit, the title really pulled me in, especially the “What Followed Will Break You” part. The story has a strong emotional atmosphere and does a good job building curiosity. That said, I felt the beginning was a little slow and dragged in a few places. Tightening that part up would make it even more engaging.

In Alaska, one needs a hat and ear coverings, and sometimes even face masks. I even used a warm-air rebreather for deep winter. -40+ is no joke. Kids could get frostbite from snow down boots on the walk to school...nevermind take a glove off to try making a snowball. Can't! The snow is like tiny ice crystals and won't pack.
