11 California Ghost Towns Where Off-Grid Homes Are So Cheap… You'll Think It's a Scam

Someone listed a house in California for $4,500. Not $45,000. Forty-five hundred dollars. That's less than a used Honda Civic. California's median home price just crossed $900,000. But in the state's forgotten ghost towns, you can buy five acres of desert for $7,000, a lot with water and sewer for $13,000, or an actual house for less than most people spend on a kitchen renovation. In this video, we break down 11 real California ghost towns where off-grid land and homes are absurdly cheap, the wild history behind each one, and the very real catches nobody warns you about. From a city built for 400,000 people that never showed up, to a resort where Frank Sinatra used to water-ski that's now 143 feet below sea level, to an entire town that just sold to a mystery LLC for $22.58 million with zero explanation. This is the California that doesn't make the brochure. ⏱️ TOWNS #11 California City — America's Biggest Ghost Grid #10 Salton City — The Paved Grid to Nowhere #9 Trona — Cheapest Houses in California #8 Wonder Valley — Jackrabbit Homestead Country #7 Randsburg, Johannesburg & Red Mountain #6 Keeler — The Town Los Angeles Killed #5 Bombay Beach — The Apocalyptic Art Colony #4 Niland & Slab City — The Last Free Place in America #3 Darwin — Artists at the End of a Dead-End Road #2 Amboy — The Route 66 Town You Can't Buy #1 Eagle Mountain — The $22.58M Mystery 🔔 Subscribe for weekly videos on the best (and weirdest) places to live in America: https://www.youtube.com/@YOURCHANNEL?... 📌 TOWNS FEATURED: • California City, CA (Kern County) • Salton City, CA (Imperial County) • Trona, CA (San Bernardino County) • Wonder Valley, CA (San Bernardino County) • Randsburg, Johannesburg & Red Mountain, CA (Kern/San Bernardino Counties) • Keeler, CA (Inyo County) • Bombay Beach, CA (Imperial County) • Niland & Slab City, CA (Imperial County) • Darwin, CA (Inyo County) • Amboy, CA (San Bernardino County) • Eagle Mountain, CA (Riverside County) ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This video is for entertainment and educational purposes only.
