It's great to hear the way Tom Waskovich is telling all this. No PTSD, no cries, no regrets. Did what had to be done.
Just like my father when he related the 27 months he spent in the Légion on the line in Algeria during the war (1959-1962).
I asked him once "Dad weren't you scared to die?" and he said "war is like a game, you don't have time to be scared, you kill and you make it or you die". His service record and his medals didn't lie.
We must always respect and support our veterans. They gave all they had for us, for us Pieds Noirs it was to defend the land of our ancestors, that was lost ultimately.

Legio Patria Nostra

I have read the stories of these warriors for years and to actually put faces to names and hear the stories firsthand is an absolute honor to me personally. These men are/were WARRIORS and their bravery and sacrifice is evidence of that fact but what truly drives that point home is their self effacing humbleness about the things they experienced and the way they can laugh about being surrounded, out of or running out of water, food, ammo, wounded in the extreme in some cases, using the dead enemy as cover, etc is truly a testament to the WARRIORS they are/were. I am humbled by their stories.
