As a scientific specialty, it seeks to go beyond religious concepts, such as Spiritism, Christianity, the basic concepts of spirituality, and so on. Among the numerous areas studied by Consciousness Studies, the following stand out: Parapsychism (or the study of paranormal phenomena, the sixth sense, the extrasensory); Projectiology (or the study of astral travel, astral projection, out-of-body experience, or projection of consciousness into various dimensions), Self-knowledge (understanding oneself with greater self-criticism and rationality), Emotional control (techniques for emotional balance to avoid depression, loneliness, and other pathologies), Assistanceology (the research of various forms, means, and techniques to help people and oneself), among many others. Waldo Vieira was a partner of Chico Xavier for over ten years in the Spiritist movement, working in disobsession, incorporation, psychography, and with various mentors, but he left in 1966 to pursue research instead of remaining in the religion. Among his psychographies done with the medium from Minas Gerais, the Gospel According to Spiritism and Evolution in Two Worlds stand out. Because he manifested his mediumship from a very young age, Waldo Vieira was a theoretical and practical researcher in the manner of Robert Monroe, William Buhlman, and Ian Stevenson. Seeking to go beyond the Parapsychology of Father Quevedo, he wrote numerous works and inspired thousands of people who were part of Conscientiology for a time, such as Wagner Borges (IPPB), Moises Esagui (Center for Consciousness Studies), Saulo Calderon (Astral Travel Channel), Geraldo Medeiros Jr. (Bioenergetics), among others. In 2015, Waldo Vieira passed away in Foz do Iguaçu, where he lived in Cognópolis.
