He was kind of right and smart to understand that although he was the GOAT at the time, poker wasn’t done developing and a few better or at least as good players could emerge once the foundation of poker strategy developed further. But he knew very well that he had solved and completely wrecked gin rummy which nobody has before or since.

  Probably my favorite video you’ve done. Really solid narration and overall well told story. Felt complete, not long winded.<br><br>Def would love to see more like it.

  I played a series event a couple years ago with Mel Judah who final tabled that &apos;97 Main Event. Mel&apos;s a respected player himself (2 WSOP bracelets, almost $4 million in lifetime earnings) and I asked him &quot;I&apos;ve read/watched a bunch of stuff about Stu Ungar. Was he actually THAT much better than everyone else at the time?&quot; And he told me that Stu was something like AT LEAST 3x better than everyone else at that final table. A hell of a statement coming from a very well respected poker player. There&apos;s been a few savants in poker over the years but had he stayed healthy and continued playing, he&apos;d be in his 70&apos;s now. With the complete package of skills he had, &nbsp;he probably would&apos;ve been just Pac-manning the money in pretty much every tournament era he played in, probably also including this one now.

  The most amazing fact about Stu Ungar. People found a database of the hands played by Stu at the 1997 WSOP and analyzed it in modern software. <br><br>You could have expected anything, but even the preflop stats weren&apos;t insane 70/60 or 50/20 or something like that, but around 24/18 with an adequate 3betting, which is strikingly close to the modern strategy of the regulars. <br><br>His postflop skills were also excellent. The fact was how deeply he understood the game. Stu Ungar was ahead of his time - it&apos;s not just a cliche.
